Ouarzazate.. The African Hollywood
How many times have you watched a movie or series that speaks about ancient Egypt, the war in Iraq, the life of Christ, or even a fantasist story about Kingdoms and dragons? Well, let me tell you that there is a big probability that one of these movies and series was filmed in Morocco, and precisely in the city called “Hollywood of Africa”, Ouarzazat.
Ouarzazat is located in the south of Morocco, it’s 200 Klm from Marrakech, in the past, it was only composed of small villages, but since the French occupation and starting from 1920, the real story of Ouarzazat has begun.
Ouarzazate is practically the Moroccan capital of the cinema industry, every year, dozens of foreign and Moroccan movies and series are shot in the locations of Ouarzazat’s studios, a lot of Hollywood movies are on the list, such as Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, The Man Who Would Be King, The Mummy, Babel, The Prince of Persia, Kingdom of Heaven, as well as many iconic series such as Game of Thrones, Prison Break among of others.
Visiting Ouarzazate is always an occasion to visit the famous locations of filming, in one of the most famous film studios in Ouarzazate; Atlas Corporation Studios, you can access these locations and memorize this event by taking some valuable photos.
